A couple of days ago GM confirmed that there’ll be no new Corvette for a minimum of next two years. Now Autocar reveals that they’re taking their sweet time for the reason that next ‘Vette goes to be “completely different”.
What do they mean by that- Well, the appearance will definitely change, hopefully for the higher as they’re talking about bringing back the split rear window from 1963. However the more important change is set the powertrain. The word is that a brand new mid-engine platform is a sturdy possibility for the brand new Chevy Corvette. In order to make the automobile a more global product, something that may rival Ferraris and Porsches.
The engine itself could be littered with the hot policies, which means that the present 7 liter V8 would be axed in favor of a smaller one but with greater power. GM is usually observing a V6 alternative.
I know these changes are to make the Corvette a closer car, higher performance, better efficiency. But an enormous portion of a car’s appeal is its character. And the ‘Vette has always been a front-engine V8-powered rear-drive car and it’s going to stays that way.
