The 2012 SLK AMG is powered by AMG’s new 5.5L V8 that produces 415 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to Mercedes-Benz’s 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission and contours AMG’s SpeedShift technology. This mixture allows the performance convertible to run from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.5 seconds and to an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph. a brand new Cylinder Management system allows the SLK55 AMG to cancel out cylinders two, three and five under partial load, thus helping increase fuel economy. Moreover, using many lightweight components for the engine help keep weight low, further aiding fuel-efficiency.
Mercedes has yet to release pricing and launch details at the 2012 SLK55 AMG.
